Batticaloa Hospital Project

Aim of Project: To establish 2 peripheral thrombolytic centers in Northern and Southern Batticaloa (Valaichenai and Kaluwanchikudy) This would reduce mortality and morbidity and improve the long term prognosis of patients with myocardial infarction. Currently all patients are transferred to the Batticaloa teaching hospital, which leads to loss of valuable time. Thrombolytic therapy has to be initiated within 6 hours, and the earlier it can be instituted, the more beneficial it is for the patient. This project is sponsored by the Medical Association of the Batticaloa teaching hospital and was initiated by Dr. Arulnithy Target Population/Beneficiaries: Acute  Myocardial infarction patients from northern and southern region of Batticaloa. Project Goals & Objectives Goal 1: To reduce door to needle time by abolishing the transfer time in acute myocardial infarction patients in northern region of Batticaloa (around Valaichenai).

Long-term Sustainability:

Long-term sustainability is high in this project as these instruments are permanent.

Equipment Requested and Funded by SLMANA Eastern Region Inc.

1. 500 troponin kits: Cost $2400
2. 2 Cardiofax 3 Channel ECG recorders $3768
3. Dash 2500 Cardiac Monitor $3424.93

The equipment has been provided for the project and it is currently in use. We anticipate receiving progress reports from Dr. Arulnithy and will update the website, when we receive them.
